Enhanced Tracking and Management of Engineering Drawings as part FileNet® P8

MuWave® Indago from UFC Inc., is an add-on application to the FileNet® P8, content management system, that allows engineers to track and better manage drawings. This application was designed to provide a user-friendly way for users to perform their job functions, and provides a web-based interface for searching, viewing, downloading and printing documents. 

Going beyond capabilities provided by the standard FileNet P8 platform, users can select multiple drawings and combine them  into a single PDF file for download and viewing, and can print multiple documents simultaneously.  The optional client-based application performs all of the capabilities of the web client, plus the ability to check in / checkout drawings, as well as full visibility as to whom checked out these documents.  When a document is checked in, it is rendered in TIFF format and stored within FileNet for access by users who may not have CAD installed on their computers. Indago automatically keeps the TIFF and original CAD files in sync.

TAILORABLE SEARCH

The search, display, index, lookup and many other features of the application are completely definable by the system administrator. The application’s customizable features provide the user with an extremely flexible environment with capabilities far beyond what the out of the box FileNet Workplace product provides.

CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT TRACKING

With Indago, documents and drawings can be easily tracked and managed by document type or group.  Unlike the standard FileNet product, a user can perform searches using a project-based search criteria to easily see the user with which documents have been checked out for a particular project.  This ensures that two engineers cannot make revisions to the same drawing at the same time.  This query function displays a list of documents and their multiple value property fields where FileNet’s Workplace does not.

FULL LIFE-CYCLE MANAGEMENT

MuWave Indago also tracks the documents as they progress through their “life cycle”. A document can move both forward and backward through the stages in the process. The workflow stages are defined as;
