ABBYY FineReader Server – The User Experience

Experience what a user sees when running the award winning ABBYY FineReader Server OCR (formerly Recognition Server). See why Recognition Server is one of the most popular server-based OCR applications available.

For this demo, we will show you how ABBYY Recognition Server is used to create searchable PDFs from image files. Incoming files can be provided in four different ways, Scans, Emails, Watch Folders, and through integration with SharePoint. We will be using the Watch Folder method for this demo.

First, we will drop our files in the Input Folder. This is the folder that ABBYY Recognition Server uses to grab the original files.

Now that ABBYY Recognition Server has processed the incoming documents, we will use an Indexing Station to provide the indexes. This is an optional step and the software can be configured to skip indexing if you prefer.

By default, the Indexing Station will automatically retrieve the next document ready for indexing. First, we select the document type. Next, we provide the indexes by either typing the values or by simply clicking the word on the document. If multiple words are needed, we simply lasso the whole area. And lastly, we select the “Accept Document” button. The indexing process is repeated for each document that is being processed.

Now that all of the documents are indexed, we’ll review the output folder. Notice that all the original files have now been converted to the searchable PDFs. We’ll open each of the documents to review the text.

ABBYY Recognition Server is an extremely flexible, powerful, and configurable tool. Some common uses include an enterprise-level document conversion service, as well as creation of full-text searchable SharePoint libraries.
