Active X is a programming framework which is used to create reusable software objects in such a way as to be independent of the programming language. They are often used to deploy web components through the use of an installation action in Microsoft Internet Explorer.
The Quillix system uses an ActiveX control in the Internet Explorer web browser to scan documents by communicating with a TWAIN driver provided by the scanner manufacturer. This control is loaded the first time a user visits the Quillix web page which is served through a Windows web server running Internet Information Services (IIS).
