ABBYY FineReader® is an intelligent, professional-grade OCR software application that provides text recognition and the ability to create editable and searchable files from scanned documents, PDF, and digital camera images. FineReader gives you the power to unlock data inside paper-based documents, images, and PDF files and transform them into manageable and accessible information, resulting in enhanced productivity and efficiency. It is the only OCR application featuring ABBYY’s Adaptive Document Recognition Technology (ADRT®), which analyzes and precisely reconstructs the entire document into native Microsoft Office® formatting elements.

Benefits of ABBYY FineReader

ABBYY FineReader is a robust, powerful yet simple to use desktop OCR product. FineReader turns scanned documents, imported PDF files, and pre-scanned images into editable text in a variety of formats.  It is easy to use and powerful, which makes it one of the leading products in the industry.

What ABBYY FineReader Does For You
FineReader saves you an immense amount of time by creating an editable version of a document. Let me give you an example. One day a person in our office building came by and told me that they were job hunting and since they knew I understood these conversion technologies asked me if I could convert a scanned copy of their resume to Microsoft Word so that they could make some corrections. What happened was that they had a printed copy of this document but had lost the original MS Word file. They scanned the file for me on their scanner and sent it to me in an email.  I opened FineReader and imported the two image files. In less than ten seconds I had created a Word file for them. I replied to their email and just dragged the new MS Word document into my reply. Presto, their problem was solved.  What was interesting though was what I did next. I wanted to see how well a competitor’s product did with the conversion, so I ran the scanned image files through this other product. What I got back was a bunch of “gobbly gook” which would have required a large amount of editing. The ABBYY product processed this same low resolution image file and did not make one single mistake!  This is the advantage of ABBYY.  And perhaps the largest advantage was something that I didn’t even need in this case, the large amount of languages (189 and counting) that are supported by FineReader. See the data sheet for more information regarding language support.

ABBYY FineReader Features

Industry Leading OCR Engine

FineReader provides 99% accuracy in 189 languages.  Documents can be output to a wide variety of formats including DOC/DOCX, XLS/XLSX, PPTX, RTF, ODT, PDF, PDF/A, TXT, CSV and others.  These features are available within Microsoft Office applications and the software architecture takes advantage of the multiple processor cores you may have installed on your desktop computer. You can extract text from within non-searchable PDF documents and then save this back to an editable version format – either PDF, MS Word, or many others.  The software also recognizes whether the image being processed is from a digital camera and if so it presents the OCR (optical character recognition) parameters in such a way that the best results are obtained.
